Lloyd Rees 'The Red Field' |
6 Oct 2010 4 comments |
We have a superb Lloyd Rees painting that is new to stock. 'The Red Field' has been in a private family collection for more than 50 years. We have estimated that Lloyd Rees painted this work circa 1947. Collectors familar with the Rees painting 'The Road to Berry' which is in the collection of the AGNSW may find some similarity between that work and 'The Red Field' - in particular the use of curvilinear lines to segment space in the landscape. Please call or e-mail us if you have any questions about this painting or if you would like to see an image of the work in its frame.

i like this painting its sensuality design & good use of colour it could be one of those times when he has given the canvas or board a second chance by painting over a previous painting his technique has not been made too obvious i would not tire of looking at this painting
Thank you Neville for your perceptive comments about this beautiful Lloyd Rees painting.

Tim Storrier Monograph |
30 Aug 2010 0 comments |
A major monograph on the work of Tim Storrier has been published this year. The book is called 'Tim Storrier: Moments'. It shoud be available in most hight quality bookshops but if you are having trouble finding it the gallery store at the Queensland Art Gallery has it available online. Here is their overview:
Tim Storrier: Moments
Edmund Capon, Ken McGregor, William Wright and Jenny Zimmer
332 pages hardcover colour
Tim Storrier, among Australia's most highly regarded and best-selling painters, remains enigmatic. His paintings, which combine the traditional genres of landscape and still-life, executed at a masterly level, are at once beautiful and frightening. Edmund Capon, Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, has observed that Tim Storriers visions and sensibilities are acute responses to his place, to the flat landscape of Australia in which the horizon is low and the sky is vast. But Storrier's treatment of the landscape is quite unique often animated by a blazing fire-line or used as a stage-set for capturing memories and intimations of human mortality.
